Hello :)

This is my website :3 New and improved but with all that same Crunchy Geocities Charm :-)

Garfielf is Schmovin

OK Cool! Whyd you change it?

Ok so before, it used Vue, with all of its data in typescript/json/etc. It was more of an experiment than anything else at that point. It ended up annoying to deal with though. I had structured things in ways that made sense to me, and had successfully reduced the amount of repetition involved, but I gradually noticed that it was holding me back. I consistently fell behind with updating it with each new game I released. Oh, and ALL IT HAD was games, so no projects, posts, anything else even. So a change was definitely needed.

I ended up going on this huge and convoluted search for a system that did everything I wanted, considering Wordpress, Laravel, Directus + Nuxt, Astro and a bunch of other things less significantly, but ultimately I kind of gave up because nothing was simple enough to make maintenance easy, but good enough to match what I wanted for the website. I felt like I was missing something.

And it turned out I was! Jekyll hadn’t stuck out to me in my searching for whatever reason (I probably looked it over because I wasn’t asking the right questions..) but I saw Nicky’s website and immediately understood that whatever that website used, I wanted to. And so I read through and she had a nice helpful post that mentioned that the website was written in Jekyll!

Fun fact I also directly copied the format + voice of this post from there, because I’m always struggling to find a voice when writing. I’m sure it’ll diverge over time but for now Sorry Nicky 😅

So yeah, past that it was dead-simple to port things over, it only took me about two days to get Jekyll working and my old content ported over, and I’m looking forward to all the fun new types of stuff I can handle with the new framework! Like wordyposts like this one :)
